Matthew Jacobsen, MD, ABFM

I look forward to getting to know the residents and learning their stories. I’m excited to hear their new and fresh ideas for life in general and for the world of medicine, and to share my experiences from my Family Medicine practice with them.
— Dr. Matthew Jacobsen, Faculty Physician

Dr. Matthew Jacobsen has always had an interest in teaching in an academic setting and it's what inspired him to join Lincoln Family Medicine Residency Program’s faculty. With nearly 20 years working in private practice, he is looking forward to sharing his experiences with residents to help shape and encourage the next generation of family physicians. He is excited to learn from the residents and patients, and to collaborate with the well-respected faculty and staff at LFMRP.

Geneva, Nebraska, is where Dr. Jacobsen grew up, about an hour southwest of Lincoln. He graduated from Dordt University with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. He received his Medical Degree from University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Medicine and completed his residency at Great Plains Family Medicine Residency Program in Oklahoma City. Dr. Jacobsen is board certified in Family Medicine and has been in practice since 2005.

Dr. Jacobsen and his wife, Dorothea Jacobsen, MD, have four children. As a family, they enjoy music and playing instruments, Husker sports, traveling, and being active in their church. He has also participated in medical mission trips to Haiti, Zambia, and Guatemala.
