Tiana Peterson, DO
At a young age, Tiana Peterson, DO, dreamed of becoming a doctor. Her parents have photos of her as a child dressed in a set of play scrubs, wearing them all the time and for repeated Halloweens. Dr. Peterson fulfilled that dream by graduating from Nebraska Wesleyan University with her Bachelor of Science in Biology and then going on to obtain dual degrees in Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and a Master of Arts in Bioethics from Kansas City University. She also has an M.S. in Anatomy from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Dr. Peterson chose family medicine as her specialty because she loves the variety of patients and health conditions. Her goal after residency is to practice rural medicine in Nebraska where there are many communities in need of physicians who can offer full-scope medicine, from the clinic to ED, to delivering babies. One of the reasons Dr. Peterson decided to do her residency at Lincoln Family Medicine Residency Program is its rural training program that will give her the experience and skills to manage all aspects of medical care in a rural community that may have limited resources. She also did a rotation here as a student and felt Lincoln’s Program would be the perfect fit for her.
When it comes to offering advice and guidance to her patients, Dr. Peterson suggests that they be open with their healthcare providers. While it may be difficult to share all of the nitty-gritty details, doctors truly want nothing more than to help their patients, and sometimes that is impacted by the smallest of details making a difference in medical decisions.
Growing up in Grafton, Nebraska, Dr. Peterson understands how comforting it is to feel connected to generations of families, something she experienced and still remains very close with her own family. One of her role models is her grandfather who was diagnosed with carcinoid cancer when Dr. Peterson was 4-years-old. She attributes her passion for medicine to his journey and the time she spent with him through it all.
In her free time, Dr. Peterson loves spending time with family, friends, and her two dogs, Tito, a 3-year-old Yorkshire Terrier, and Tonic, a Miniature Schnauzer puppy. She is an avid reader of fiction, fantasy, and an occasional mystery/thriller, as well as enjoys painting and furniture flipping.
