John DeWaard, DO
John DeWaard, DO, grew up in Utica, NE, a rural community approximately 40 miles west of Lincoln. Dr. DeWaard received his Bachelor of Science in Biology, with a minor in Chemistry at Hastings College in Nebraska. He went on to receive his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from A.T. Still University of Health Sciences Kirksville School of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri.
Dr. DeWaard chose Lincoln Family Medicine Program because of its family atmosphere and his trust in the faculty here. His favorite area of Family Medicine is Sports Medicine. He loves the musculoskeletal system and how it allows him to reconnect with sports and treat patients with sports injuries. After residency, Dr. DeWaard would like to obtain a fellowship in Sports Medicine.
Growing up, Dr. DeWaard wanted to be an NBA basketball player and did play at the collegiate level. In addition to having a passion for basketball, he also enjoys football, golf, baseball, and sprint car racing. Whenever he gets a day off, he likes to attend sporting events. If he hadn’t chosen to become a doctor, he would have wanted to be a coach. In addition to cheering on Nebraska’s Huskers, his favorite teams all reside in Minnesota–the Twins, the Timberwolves, and the Vikings.
